Health and Safety for Builders has been written to give site managers, supervisors, tradespeople and self-employed contractors a single, practical reference that follows a house or small commercial build from the moment planning permission is granted through to the handover of keys to the client.
Rather than treating health and safety as a separate subject bolted onto the “real” work, this book weaves it into the sequence of construction itself. Each chapter follows a stage of the build — topsoil strip, foundations, drainage, services, floor slabs, brick and blockwork, insulation, roof structure and covering, plastering, decoration, and landscaping — and explains not only how the work is typically carried out but also the hazards inherent to that stage, the controls that reduce risk to an acceptable level, and the inspections and sign-offs that should accompany it.
