  1.  Trained persons to use any mechanical equipment.
  2. Refer to any Method statements for safe systems of work.
  3. Ensure all hand tools are in good working order, check handles and ensure any cutting blades are not damaged.
  4. Use long reach equipment to avoid stretching etc.
  5. If leaf blower (mechanical) is used check fuel lines and fuel tank for any leaks, do not blow in direction of others.
  6. Use warning signs to warn members of the public.
  7. Cordon off any excavations.
  8. Take all precautions if new areas of digging are planned, obtain service drawings from authorities and use a cable detector.
  9. Use manual handling techniques if heavy/outsize lifting required, and ensure sufficient persons available for the task.
